Orchids-So Much To Choose From

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Most people believe that beautiful orchids are a rare find.  In truth, there are 880 genre and over 300,000 registered species.  Orchids are extremely adaptable and can be found in rainforests, tundra, desert, mountains, grassy plains, swamps, growing in upper tree branches, and even entirely underground.

Little Lovelies-Flower Girl dresses by Belle Of The Ball

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Although elegant, these adorable flower girl dresses still allow little girls to look like little girls and not miniature adults.  Shown here are three designs from Belle Of The Ball.

Top “Secret Garden”.  Center “Tulip”.  Bottom “April”.  I, personally, think “Tulip” is a perfect little dress.

Jazmine’s Christmas

Friday, December 26th, 2008

My four-year-old Old English Sheepdog, Jazmine, was so excited by the gift wrap, that she ran off with the paper as each gift was opened.  She created a little treasure pile for herself and as you can see, the effort exhausted her, so she needed a nap.

Marvelous Mackinac-A Magical Church-Beautiful Photos-A Wedding Paradise

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

The Haunting Beauty of Mackinac Island, Michigan, makes it a popular wedding destination.  To protect the island’s horse population, motorized vehicles are prohibited and visitors and inhabitants make their way around by horse-drawn carriage and bikes.

Historic buildings and churches are common on the island.  Here we feature The Little Stone Church, a beautiful structure and wedding chapel, expertly captured by photographer Robert E. Benjamin, who graciously allowed us the use of his photos.

Carnations-What’s Not To Love?

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Many people view the carnation as an inferior flower due to its price and availability .  However, Mother Nature is not a paid designer whose high-end designs are superior to her low-end budget designs.  The carnation remains a beautiful creation: delicate and versatile.  Brides in particular often overlook this flower, opting to spend more on the difficult to obtain, short growing-season blooms.  The carnation abounds in a variety of colors, including the lovely lilac color shown here.  I, for one, have always loved this flower.

Also shown: a green carnation and hydrangea bouquet; a grouping of lilac colored and hot-pink carnations: a bouquet of pink carnations in multi-hues.

Washington State Weddings

Friday, December 19th, 2008

The beautiful San Juan and Orcas Islands in Washington seem to offer an endless backdrop of charm and beauty.  The Victorian Valley Chapel on Orcas Island couldn’t be more quaint.  I love this photo of the Orchard House at Turtleback Farm, which offers accommodations.  Below, newlyweds enjoy a carriage ride on Orcas Island.

The Lieber Schwan built by David Baxter sits moored at the Lieber Haven Resort & Mariner.  Mr. Baxter and his wife lived aboard the schooner for 22 years, raising four daughters there.

Silk, Satin, Beads and Gems-Glamour Weddings

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Our own Bohemian Garden Bridal Barrette adds glitz and glamour to hairstyles.  Marthastewart.com shows off a pearl-embellished cake.  We gemmed-up our own silk calla Lilly bouquet and David’s Bridal flaunts a delicate beaded wedding dress.  Silk shoes at Bellissima Bridal and an oh so beautiful silk dress from Essence of Australia.  Henry Roth creates magic with the beading on this mermaid dress.

Weddings in Shades of Green

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

A little greenery goes a long way.  The Sottero & Midgley gown adds just a touch of green at the waist.  Little green topiary card holders are a nice treat for the guests.  Green shoes by Colorific spice up any dress.  Our own green and blue Gerbera Daisies, lilies and fruit centerpiece says, “cool and refreshing”, and a pretty green gemstone ring livens things up.  A little touch of green added to bridal flowers seems to be all that’s needed in the mix below.
