The cost of wedding flowers
Thursday, August 14th, 2008Casablanca Lily, Stargazer lily. Both fall into the class of Oriental lilies. Expensive as a fresh flower up to $50 a bunch. Price does not increase for silk flowers, however, Casablanca lilies are harder to find than Stargazer lilies or Tiger lilies.
Gardenia-Very fragile as a fresh flower and can be up to $10 per stem. In silk, quality flowers can be found that are amazingly real. They can be a little hard to locate at times and quality silk Gardenias may be a little more costly than other silk flowers.
Hydrangea-roughly $6 or $7 a stem in fresh flowers. Fairly easy to find in silk. Quality determines the price unless an unusual color is requested.
Lily of the Valley-Expensive as fresh flowers, up to $50 a bunch because they only bloom once-a-year for a few weeks. Very fragile in fresh flowers. In silk, they are readily available because they are popular wedding flowers. Not nearly as fragile and only quality determines price.
Orchid-Difficult to grow, usually shipped from Hawaii. Can cost $5-$25 per stem if fresh. Silk orchids only differ in price by quality, although there are some rare types that are hard to find and therefore, more costly.
Peony-In fresh flowers the lovely peony is available only from late spring to early summer and can cost $6 per stem. In silk they are easier to come by in other seasons and quality determines price. Qaulity silk peonies can be strikingly realistic.
Rose-In fresh flowers, location and seasonal availablility determine much of the cost, which can be as high as $6 a stem for common roses. In silk, again, quality determines cost and some high-quality roses can be expensive.
Stephanotis-Although readily available a fresh bouquet of Stephanotis is on the pricey side. Even in silk flowers they are slightly more expensive than some flowers because quality Stephanotis is difficult to find.
Tulip-Usually grown in France. They can cost a hefty $45 a bunch. In silk, quality determines cost, however, some colors may be more difficult to find at certain times of the year.
Gloriosa or Flame Lily-Beautiful and difficult to grow. Usually imported from Tropical Africa can cost $6 to $10 per stem in fresh flowers. In silk these can be more expensive than other silk flowers because they are hard to find.
