Sea Inpired Weddings

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

The colors of the sea provide a wonderful inspiration for Summer weddings.

Below, we begin with a seaside inspired cake from cakealchemy.com  I like the choice of a bright, deep blue.

Wedding Style 2011-Many Different Strokes

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

At left, great lines on a strapless gown from the Reem Acra Spring 2011 collection.  The diagonal draping on bodice, the floral embellishments, and large bow in back give this dress a wonderful silhouette.

Below, another unusual Acra dress in true couture style.

This fabulous dress from Amsale Spring 2011, sports a large flower and flowing skirt, giving it a “flapper” look.

I chose the dress below from the Blush by JLM 2011 Spring collection because of its demure appeal: sweet, bridal, different.

At left, a stunning gown from the Ines Di Santo, Spring 2011 collection features truly wonderful detail in lace.

Below, more lacy detail from the Oscar de la Renta, Spring 2011 collection for the bride who loves long sleeves.

Below, another take on a more covered look from the Spring 2011, Vinyard by Priscilla of Boston, collection.

Spider Daisies For Wonderful Bouquets

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

One of my favorite flowers is the Gerbera Daisy.  The Spider Daisy is actually a species of the Gerbera.  This large flower, with its delicate spiky appearance comes in a huge variety of colors, making it ideal for floral designs of all types.  I often use Spider Daises, which are also called Spider Mums,  in my bouquets but they are great for floral arrangements, and floral accessories.

Spiky as it may appear, the petals are soft and delicate.

Our own Spider Daisy Bouquet features Green and Creme  Spiders with creme embellishments and small white daisies.  We’ve added creme and gold wire mesh and created a sleek modern design.  Available at Bohemian Garden.

Below a close-up of a Spider Daisy shows its true beauty.

New Orleans, of course, with its Ghost Tours, Voodoo Tours, Cemetery Tours and all around spooky feeling.

Salem, MA always comes to mind at Halloween.  The Witchy town has taken full advantage of its history with many dark offerings for the season.

Above right: Seattle’s underground city (Today’s Seattle was built on top of  it) is said to be haunted.

If you prefer a haunted hotel, and who wouldn’t right?…then check out the ones below.  Photos:  The famous Stanley Hotel in Colorado was the inspiration for Stephen King’s “Overlook Hotel” in the movie “The Shining”; Thayer’s B&B in Minnesota offers Ghost Hunting packages and Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre; a room at The Thomas Whaley House in San Diego looks creepy enough for me; and last, the haunted Union Station Hotel in Nashville, TN.F-10-2StanleyF-10-2Thayer'sB&B,MNGhostHuntingF-10-2TheThomasWhaley-HouseSanDeigo
